I visited the hospital today with a gardener (in the place we were staying – word travels fast that I am a physician!) with a severe disc problem and was amazed at the numbers waiting for the few physicians and nurses who could help. Still the place was clean and orderly and people patient. As always, those without money wait longer and may not be able to afford the treatment. Walking home in the dark streets earlier with two young men I was glad to have brought my flashlight – which they never use – as a snake (about 16 inches) was just underfoot and caused the young men to get very excited, gather a strong stick and pummel the snake before it could harm anyone. Otherwise we are feeling very blessed and meeting many interesting people who love to talk of both their country and of Canada – and the cold they cannot believe!
