Liberal Caucus launches a toll free number to help Albertans push for a public inquiry

March 22 2011

Edmonton – To supplement his efforts to force the government to launch a full public inquiry into allegations of intimidation and censorship of doctors and nurses who speak out about problems in health care, Official Opposition Leader David Swann wants Albertans to call 1-888-886-2834.

The number gives health care professionals the chance to share their stories of intimidation. Patients who have faced long wait times for surgery or emergency room care can also share their point of view.

“We believe health care professionals have the right to speak out on behalf of their patients without fear of losing their jobs,” Swann says. “I hope that this toll-free number will give Albertans a place to share their stories and a way to further pressure the government into doing the right thing.”

Swann plans to use the most compelling stories as evidence supporting the need for a full, independent, judge-led public inquiry.

Albertans may also join a new Facebook group to support the inquiry: “Support Health Professionals – Alberta Needs a Health Care Public Inquiry.”
